Winemaker Notes:
“Sauvignon Blanc is grown in our Marlborough vineyard on stony riverbed terraces, gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks to give intense passionfruit and gooseberry fruit characters. The wine is fruit-driven in style, with complexity from lees ageing for several months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. This wine is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with intense flavours and crisp acid in a dry style.”
JM‘s Tasting Notes:
A super fragrant Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, on the grassy side, that also delivers on the green fruit character.
The nose throws heaps of concentrated pear, grass, asparagus, and citrus aromas in a rather typical Marlborough-like fashion. But not all are as explosively aromatic on the smell though, and not all are as grassy.
The palate confirms the nose’s first impression. The wine is overall very concentrated, with high acidity on the edge of being aggressive but a clearly perceptible sweetness comes to the balance’s rescue. It overall feels dry, but nearly off-dry. The mouthfeel is fireworks of asparagus, citrus, and tropical notes.
A great New Zealand Sauv Blanc: explosive, fruity, grassy, and acidic, with more concentration than other similar wines around that price tag.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
The wine’s powerful sweet/acidic balance makes it a perfect match for tasty appetizers and entrees, and will also stand all against spicy Asian cuisine.
