Top 3 Best Wines – May 2016
#1 – 93 Pts: 2010 E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone, France
A powerful, juicy, meaty and intensely layered Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with a striking precision both in its fruity expression and its balance bull of elegance of accurate acidity. The finish is exceptionally long and complex.
Average Retail Price $48 USD (ex-Tax in the USA). Find it online on Wine-Searcher
#2 – 92 Pts: 2012 Donatella Cinelli Colombini Fattoria del Colle Il Drago e Le Otto Colombe Toscana IGT, Italy
A layered wine to be discovered with time, taking the time to explore each sensation one after the other. More importantly, taking the time to be surprised by its concentration and intensity. Like a good Super-Tuscan ought to in a way, it combines the best of both worlds.
Average Retail Price $33 USD (ex-Tax in the USA). Find it online on Wine-Searcher
#3 – 92 Pts: 2012 Château du Moulin-à-Vent Croix des Verillats, Beaujolais, France
A stunning, almost hard-to-believe example of what Gamy can produce. Concentrated and complex, it’s zesty, filled with plenty of berries character, but also meaty and deep.
A pleasing wine in many regards: pleasing and fruity like a Beaujolais wine, but serious, deep, and built like an old vine wine aged in oak made with care and skill.
Average Retail Price $33 USD (ex-Tax in the USA). Find it online on Wine-Searcher
Top 3 Best Wine Buys – May 2016
#1 – 90 Pts: 2011 CVNE Cune Reserva, Rioja, Spain
It’s modern in style as the wine is driven by a ripe upfront fruit character. It’s also relatively full-bodied and smooth, the oak tannins rounding up the feel for a corpulent silky texture.
But there’s more to it. Some earthiness places the wine back into its European origin. The irony feel is confirmed on the palate and will make wonders for pairing the wine with grilled tasty herby meats.
Average Retail Price $26 USD (ex-Tax in the USA). Find it online on Wine-Searcher
#2 – 90 Pts: NV Champagne René Geoffroy Cuveé Expression Brut Premier Cru, France
Fragrant, smooth, and fruity (tropical + citrus) Champagne, filled with rich buttery brioche as well as plenty of exuberant lemon notes.
Average Retail Price $48 USD (ex-Tax in the USA). Find it online on Wine-Searcher
#3 – 90 Pts: 2015 François Chartier Le Rosé, Pays d’Oc I.G.P., France
A very very good rosé wine that combines the pure enjoyment from refreshing citrus and delicate primary fruit flavors with acidity, balance, and depth from a truly remarkably-long finish for a rosé.
Your rosé of choice this summer.
Average Retail Price $19 CAD (only available in Canada unfortunately :-(. Find it online at SAQ
