Grossi Laüe means ‘fine vineyards’ in Alsace dialect and is an equivalent term to the German Grosses Gewächs or the Burgundian Grand Cru, though much less official. It is a new range of wines from Famille Hugel replacing the old Jubilee range.
The Pinot Noir grapes were destemmed and macerated for about 2 weeks, with manual immersion of the cap (pigeage) into the wine to ensure extraction of tannins. The wine was matured for almost 10 months in small oak barriques, a fraction of them being new.
The whole production of this wine is closed with diam cork.
Tasting Notes:
Complex nose, elegant. It displays a wide array of aromas.
It’s earthy, spicy (white pepper), fruity (red cherry and strawberry liqueur), and a little oaky too. There’s a fresh fruity feel to the smell overall.
The palate is mineral and oaky. Tannins are thin, but smooth. Light body.
Good complexity on the finish but tannins a little dry in the end.
