Hugel is a renown winery and negociant based in the village of Riquewihr in the heart of the Alsatian vineyards.
On a tour of the region organised by the Vins d’Alsace Comité around the annual regional fair Millésime Alsace, I had the opportunity to taste and review a large sample of the winery’s range.
The Hugel wines have recently gone through a slight re-branding.
Labels still display the dinstinctive yellow color inspired by the Maggi soup brand of the early 20th century, but the design has been refreshed and modernized.
Old & New Label Designs of Famille Hugel Wine Labels:
The Famille Hugel Classic range now includes Muscat, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris, with elegant and refined new labels, and all legal information relocated to the back label.
The Estate range is entirely new, for Riesling and Gewurztraminer only, from the clay marl soils typical of the vineyards around the Hugel’s hometown of Riquewihr. The very recent release of Schoelhammer has been added to the range, and the Grossi Laüe range succeeds the Jubilee range whose last vintage was for 2009.
Find below the wine review and tasting notes of Hugel wines I was given to taste.
