This Riesling wine comes from a vineyard on Josmeyer’s estate located between the villages of Wintzenheim and Turckheim in the Alsace region of France.
There, flat alluvial deposits of the Fecht are rich in clay (22%). The soil on the vineyard is predominantly composed of sand, shingle, and silt with a high incidence of pebbles and frequent plates of loess.
The vines are 35 years old.
The name of this cuveé comes from the French word ” pierre ” (stone) to remind the minerality of the Riesling grape variety. The pierrets or pierrots are small sparrows.
Grapes were hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed slowly in pneumatic presses over 5-8 hours. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is always avoided at Josmeyer and no chaptalization takes place.
Tasting Notes:
Elegant floral nose lifted by smoky and mineral tones.
Great tension on the palate. Dry with a balance driven by solid acidity.
Plenty of weight, spiciness and a biting but enjoyable bitter and a little vegetal finish that gives the wine an extremely long finish.
Not extremely weighty or complex, but the unique finish makes it worth the experience.
Enjoy 🙂
