Louis de Sacy Cuvée Inédite Grand Cru Brut, Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Score : 93/100
This Cuvée Inédite is one of Louis de Sacy’s Champagne vigneron flagship wine.
It is made of 100% Chardonnay grapes, all coming from Verzy, a village classified Grand Cru and located in the “Montagne de Reims”, home of the producing winery.
The Montagne de Reims being much more famous for the Top quality of its Pinot Noir wines, it is surprising and particularly interesting to see a Grand Cru Chardonnay expression of this terroir.
And this is exactly why Alain de Sacy developed this Cuvée Inédite, to showcase the importance of terroir and the Champagne region of France. Hi wanted to demonstrate how different Chardonnay from the Montagne de Reims area is from the one coming from the Cotes des Blancs.
So how good is this Louis de Sacy Cuvée Inédite, Grand Cru Chardonnay from the Montagne de Reims?
Intense nose filled with walnut, hay, and honey.
A fresh citrusy front palate followed by a rich oily texture, super-fine bubbles.
Layered leesy complexity, with chalky minerality. Some tropical fruits too.
As opposed to many Cotes de Blancs Chardonnay Champagne wines that are most-often all about subtlety, tension and minerality, this Cuvée Inédite displays a rich riper and more exuberant expression of the grape. Stronger and broader flavors which makes it a little more approachable, yet with all the elegance of a Grand Cru terroir.
