This is another wine review of the ‘Bat’s Cave Tasting Series‘: wines that I taste and describe a little more lightly than the usual and very comprehensive Social Vignerons reviews.
More lightly in length, but just as seriously in the tasting approach and the authenticity in my opinion on the wine that is given.
Score: 89/100
Tasting Notes:
A dark red color, as you’d expect from a Cairanne, a wine named after a village in the Rhone Valley, that does deliver rich and quite powerful wines as in many areas around the region.
The nose is also very intense, filled with dark spices and dark berry fruits.
It has the typical Syrah spiciness to it, almost chili-like. But this is mellowed by rich ripe sweet-smelling fruit aromas of blackberry and oaky notes of vanilla and caramel.
Nice smoky tones and herbal scents of garigue as well.
Palate is both smooth and tannic. The first apalate is smooth and fills your mouth with generous flavors of dark ripe berries, and a velvety texture. The finish gives up more character and is a little more drying, but that will go even better on food.
It’s dry and delivers on the old-world-like savoriness, gamy and earthy characters, but has also some new-world-like richness and a touch of sweetness to it.
A very good buy overall!
