Scott Eddy is a world traveler, and he loves to extensively share his experiences on social media.
And with more than 1 Million followers on Twitter alone, and 180+K on Instagram, many people are enjoying his wonderings in beautiful places, luxury hotels, sea cruises, and more.
But Eddy is also, quite visibly on his media channels, a big wine aficionado that never misses an opportunity to stop by and visit a vineyard and a winery, or simply share a good bottle.
Of course, travel goes well with wine, doesn’t it?
In fact, the content Scott Eddy shares around #wine, is often the most seen and shared for the hashtag around the globe.
So, at a gathering in Barcelona we both attended a few weeks ago, I jumped on the opportunity to try to unveil a few mysteries behind @MrScottEddy’s character and man, and learn more about his passion for wine.
Q: With Over 1 Million followers on Twitter, many know you from Social Media. But many do not necessarily understand what you do. How do you simply define yourself?
A: I do a few things for the travel industry….consulting, building out digital strategies, public speaking and influencer campaigns.
Q: How and when did you first get interested in social media?
A: I started everything in 2009
Q: And what brought to become such a powerful content creator on social?
A: I have been building my personal brand for 7 years, seriously 24/7, I have never taken a day off from trying to grow my audience.
Q: Judging by your social media feeds, you seem to be on the road or in the air all the time. Do you live somewhere in particular?
A: For the past 4 years, I have not had a home. Now I call South Florida home, but it’s just for a few days in between trips….I stay with my sister and niece.
Q: Travel seems to be one of your main area of focus and influence. What do you like about travelling? Do you think you like it for the same reasons as most people or different ones?
A: Probably not. I use the travel industry because it helps me suceed at my main goal, which is to build these micro networks in many different countries all over the world. At the very heart of my goal it’s to meet new people all the time, because if you do that, the opportunites will never stop.
Q: Before doing this Q&A, we spent a day at a winery together. I was surprised to see how much time and effort you put into creating and sharing your experience. Is that the key to creating great content?
A: Yes, most people just think that posting is taking a pic and uploading it right away, while that might be true, there is a lot of planning and making sure you are getting the right content at the right time.
Q: What do you find is the best way to engage with an audience about travel? Any tips?
A: I explore the area I am going to BEFORE my trip, looking for those most active, the ones that really engage…and if possible, I try to meet them on my trip.
Q: Now let’s talk about wine: Social Vignerons’ main topic and one you also often share about. What brought you to loving wine and what do you like about it?
A: I wasn’t really into wine that heavy until I moved overseas, I found I was surrounded by people that were deeply passionate about it. Living in Portugal and Spain for many years didn’t hurt either.
Q: Do you find wine people you meet around the world are somehow different from people working in other industries?
A: Yes, the people I meet through the wine world are super interesting, very different than the other people I meet, very culturly rounded individuals, very similar to travel people.
Q: Any favourite wine or wine style? Red, white, big, acidic?
A: I love rose, but I love a big, heavy cab……my 2 true loves!!!
Q: So, which social media platforms can people find you on? What are your favourites now, and do you see new ones coming up strongly in your universe?
A: Twitter is my go-to platform (@MrScottEddy), but I also am very active on Instagram, I think they have very different personalities, but both very effective.
Q: Finally, do you see yourself continuing with this lifestyle and sharing on social as much as you do today for long in the future, or do you think you might settle down at some point?
A: Yes, the journey will continue. I don’t use dirty words like ‘settle down’ in my life.
