Score : 89/100
This Crémant de Bourgogne by Moutard is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines that were vinified in large oak vats to give them more roundness and complexity than in stainless steel tanks.
Tasting Notes
This French Crémant sparkling wine comes in a vibrant and rather delicate lemon-yellow color of medium intensity, with some green hues.
The nose is subtle and mellowed, quite discrete really!
A touch of fresh lime, some apricot and perhaps a touch of tropical (like pineapple), a hint of vanilla and butter, and a little vegetal hay and acacia character come through subtly on the nose with no dominant note. A little restrained to smell, but as you can see by the number of descriptors used, quite complex.
The palate reveals a more pungent personality. It’s vibrant from plenty of citrus flavors (lemon and lime, perhaps some grapefruit too), zesty acidity, and slightly grassy notes freshening it up even further.
Good balance dominated by this crisp acidity, but leveled by enough body and oily texture, and fine enough bubbles for an enjoyable outcome.
Overall
A vibrant sparkling wine made with finesse and displaying at first quite a discrete and reserved character. Let it open up for you in your glass, and give it some focused tasting time, and you’ll actually unveil a zesty, vibrant citrusy and quite complex personality.
Probably more of a gourmet wine, to pair with delicate entrées or seafood dishes rather than your everyday starter wine.
For connoisseurs, although its double-faced personality, both mellowed and vibrant should in the end satisfy most palates.
A wine to experience…
Enjoy 🙂
