2015 Mont d’Azur Cloud Chaser Côtes de Provence Rosé, France
Score : 87/100
This Côtes de Provence Rosé wine comes in a typical bright salmon pink color with orange hues. It is slightly pale but not as much as some are. The color instead strikes by its brightness and the shiny yellow/orange hues it has, I guess to remind of sun rays like a clouds chaser ought to!
The nose is rather discrete and not very telling. A touch of orange peel, subtle white flowers, and a hint of red capsicum aromas. Not much more and not a lot happening here.
The palate though brings it bright vibrancy from a nice acidity and a fresh oily texture that provides a refreshing sensation.
Flavors of mandarin, notes of blueberry. It’s dry and fruity and lets itself enjoy and go down with ease.
The finish delivers a rather intense bitterness. Together with the hints of orange peel and mandarin, it does remind of the bitterness you get from the citrus skin which is rather enjoyable if you like it and should make this dry wine very food-friendly, but could surprise people that are very sensitive to this type of bitterness.
A very well made, refreshing, and pleasing rosé wine that delivers in flavor intensity with its crisp dry and bitter feel.
As one can indeed feel the sun of Provence in it with its citrus characters, and it is easy-to-drink (especially with food), I guess it will indeed chase the clouds away from your summery, perhaps even wintery meals…
