Score: 90/100
This wine was selected by Francois Chartier who received the Best Sommelier in the World Grand Prix Sopexa in 1994.
It was assembled and aged by Sélections Chartier Inc., but elaborated at the Domaine Jaume in Vinsobres, France.
This is a blend of 30% Syrah, 55% Grenache, and 15% Mouvedre that was conciously not aged in wine barrel to preserve the true expression of the Vinsobres terroir.
Tasting Notes
This Cotes du Rhone wine comes in a rather dark red color, still looking red and quite youthful for a 4-year-old CdR.
The nose is dark, toasted and intriguing.
Plenty of dark cocoa notes, coffee, and sweet spices (clove and nutmeg). Plenty of white pepper aromas too. The fruit characters are here but discrete: you can just guess some shy blackberry notes.
The wine becomes much more lively and approachable on the palate. Solid lively acidity makes the sweet spicy notes dance on your tongue, and does here reveal the ripe red berry flavors.
A solid body on a moderately dense but very smooth tannic structure make the wine easy to enjoy with its silk texture and zesty fresh acidity.
Overall
The overall feel is of a dark and toasted wine, silky and lively on the palate with so fresh and lively acidic berry fruit characters it is easy to love and get along with.
A Cotes du Rhone wine with great depth and character for the style and appellation. Very clean and well made offering plenty of depth and concentration.
Not your usual Cdr, but a rather very refined one!
Enjoy
