This Crémant de Bourgogne, a Burgundy sparkling wine made by Champagne producer Moutard, is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes from the Les Vignolles vineyard.
Tasting Notes
This Blanc de Blancs bubbly comes in a bright lemon-yellow color, typical of a sparkling Chardonnay, with a pleasant and shiny appearance. The transparent bottle allows to see the nice color of the wine which is a plus.
Aromas on the nose are fragrant and very fuity. Citrus (lemon and lime), with a tropical edge: pineapple and mango, are dominant showing that we’ve got here some decently ripe Chardonnay.
But there is a touch of grasiness and white pepper spiciness providing freshness to the profile as well, revealing that both ripe and more mineral expression of the fruit has gone into the blend.
On the palate, you’re first stroke by the lusciousness of this sparkling wine.
It is dry, mineral with a solid acidity overall, but the sugars from the dosage are clearly perceptible, and they increase the wine’s luscious feel dramatically. The lemon flavors have a confit feel to them, while the pineapple also tastes rich and both sweet and fresh like a sorbet.
Overall
A very good sparkling Chardonnay with a pure expression of the fruit it was made with.
Citrusy and tropical, it is driven by a crisp minerality and acidity. And backed up by fine bubbles and some discrete creamy leesy tones from the methode traditionelle process.
Not complicated yet quite refined, mineral and a little long, we have here a great expression of a fine sparkling Chardonnay with character, refinement and a good expression of its Burgundy terroir.
Enjoy
