Tasting Notes
This Pauillac comes in a very dense dark color. It is certainly black to the core, and dark red with purple hues to the rim making it look still rather youthfull. The density of the color is quite outstanding already suggesting we’ve got here something of a very serious wine.
Smelling the wine, it does feel so intense, but more importantly deep, it is intimidating to try and describe it being thorough. There is so much going on!
A massive heap of spices is perhaps where to start as it seems to be the dominant tone, though the fruit is not far behind.
Dark clove, licorice scents, and a minty character join loads of dried fruit characters like date, fig and raisin to give an overall rich Christmas pudding feel.
But the cheery liqueur and blackberry jam (not super jammy, still smelling quite fresh and juicy) are there too.
Add vanilla, dark cocoa and roasted hazelnut and you’ll understand how much of a complex and deep nose we’ve got here.
The palate is utterly dense but also smooth with tight dense and more importantly very fine tannins.
Great acidity makes for a luscious refined tasting experience where the richness of super-ripe berry fruit characters marries spices and sheer flavor power for a uniquely dense, powerful yet sophisticated tasting experience.
Enjoy 🙂
