This Blanc de Blancs Italian sparkling wine is made by Ca d’Or Winery in the Lombardy region of Northern Italy.
It is made from 100% Durella grapes from Grand Cru vineyards using the Charmat method (or cuve close, closed tank).
As a Millesimato, grapes come from a single vintage: 2016 here, and is labeled under the Metodo Italiano Lessini Durello Brut D.O.C. appellation.
So How Good is 2016 Ca d’Or Blanc de Blancs Brut?
This Blanc de Blancs Franciacorta sparkling wine comes in a bright lemon-yellow color of medium-to-low intensity, with distinctive green hues making it look vibrantly fresh and appealing, like a green/yellow apple. Thanks to its distinctive bottle, you can actually see this color before even pouring which is a nice feature.
The nose is complex, though all on the primary fruit/floral spectrum, quite expectedly perhaps from its production method in stainless steel tanks.
Apple, elderflower, fresh apricot and each, grass, green pear, there’s a lot going on in terms of fruit. It’s surprisingly both a little grassy and green, and filled with luscious ripe stonefruit, and smelling like fresh exuberant grapes, almost Muscat-like!
Enjoyable to smell, like walking in a grassy orchard where pear, apricots, and juicy peaches would be grown.
The palate is soft with fresh acidity, well balanced by some perceptible sugars.
Here too it’s fruity and opulent, but with no more secondary or tertiary tones here. It’s all about the fruit and floral characters which is an enjoyable thing, but limits the wine’s depth and complexity.
Smooth bubbles on a relatively oily texture. It tastes like an opulent sparkling fruit juice.
Enjoy 🙂
