This Collioure Rosé (pink) wine by Banyuls winery Domaine de la Rectorie is, like rather rarely, fermented in oak barrels after direct pressing of the grapes (no prolonged skin contact).
It is a blend of 60% Grenache noir, 30% Syrah, and 10% Carignan.
After fermentation, the wines was aged for about 7 months on its lees before bottling in March.

Tasting Notes
This rosé wine comes in a bright and rather intense pink color, with a wealth of oranges hues to it. It looks unusual for a rosé, or unique I’ll let you chose the appropriate term, but appealing and that’s what matters…
The nose is also rather unusual for a rosé, dominated by nutty notes of roasted hazelnut.
The fruit only comes after, and it’s some orange peel and fresh pomegranate rather than your usual strawberry and grapefruit.
Intriguing it is to smell, so let’s dig in!
Yes, the palate gives the answer we were looking for of what this wine is about.
This is a barrel fermented rose, with solid body but also a solid-enough acidity top keep its power and shoulder fresh.
Loads of savory spices fill up your palate as you taste, together with ripe citrus flavors of confit lemon, the pomegranate again.
Rich nutmeg, oaky vanilla, some coconut richness coat the whole experience in a powerfully aromatic and an oily texture.
Overall
Yes, after the full tasting of this wine, I have no hesitation in calling it unique.
A rosé wine with a hugely generous personality. Dry and somehow restrained, it is exuberant though in the flavor concentration and body it delivers, offering a savory yet rich palate with gorgeous oaky after tones.
If this sounds like something that you’d want to experience, then yes for sure, this is a wine you should try as you will have much pleasure doing so, like I did…
Enjoy 🙂
