Score: 88/100
This Languedoc white wine made by vigneron Laurent Miquel is a 100% Viognier from vineyards on calcareous soils with North-South row orientation, hence the name of the cuvée.
After fermentation, the wine’s maturation is partially done in French oak barrels (30% new and 50% demi-muid), while the rest is aged on lees in stainless steel tanks.
Tasting Notes
This Languedoc Viognier white comes in an intense lemon-yellow color, with a fair bit of gold to golden hues making it look shiny, and intensifying its appearance.
The aromatic profile is also very intense, dominated by luscious and ripe primary-fruit characters.
It’s very tropical and lifted by intense ginger notes: pineapple and passion fruit jump out of the glass, smoothened by ripe stonefruit tones: luscious apricot and yellow peach.
Add some nutmeg and white pepper as a distinct spiciness, and you’ll nearly get the full picture of this wine’s powerfully fruity and intense, quite complex nose.
The palate is no less exuberant on the fruity characters, with a wealth of typical-Viognier apricot flavors. A heap of ginger, nutmeg and other sweet spices although it is clearly dry in style. Powerful well-integrated oaky notes in the retro-olfaction after you’ve tasted (spitted or swallowed) the wine.
Oily texture well driven by a good acidity for a Viognier. A nice dry mineral acidity balances out the wine’s richness and fruity flavor intensity.
Overall
An excellent Viognier in a powerful and exuberant style, that still displays some finesse and refinement from a good acidity and a well-controlled partial aging in oak.
Enjoy 🙂
