#Vinitaly2017 Encounter & Wine Tasting : Ginevra Venerosi Pesciolini of Tenuta Ghizzano
While in Vinitaly, THE professional wine fair for Italian wine, I had the pleasure a meeting a very kind and welcoming winery owner and winemaker of Tenuta di Ghizzano in Tuscany.
With obvious passion, on the Tuscan coast in the Province of Pisa, she makes Sangiovese and Bordeaux blend wines, using biodynamics for growing the grapes.
Here are the two tasty and characterful wines I had the pleasure of discovering in her company:
2014 Veneroso, Terre di Pisa
100% Sangiovese from the oldest vineyards on the Tenuta’s Estate, aged in 500 litre French oak barrique.
Score : 89/100
Tasting Notes: Nice dark red color, bright on the rim. The nose is on fruit and spices (nutmeg and pepper); also distinctive black olive notes. Deep, powerfully spicy yet elegant.
Medium body and rather light tannins, smooth, saline character and finish on spices and black olive. A wine with elegant and much terroir character.
2013 Nambrot, Costa Toscana IGT
Tasting Notes: Very elegant floral and fruity nose, raspberry and backberry probably from the Petit Verdot, a nice expression of the grape, pure and fruity. Sweet spices come through as well, together with clove.
Palate features very smooth tannins, with character to the finish, and more importantly a mineral acidity that drives the feel on fruit and spices. A very elegant Bordeaux blend that indeed expresses the Tuscan terroir, sharing surprising similarities to the local expression of the Sangiovese grape: acidity, fruity spiciness and characterful tannins.
