This Italian white Roero Arneis cuvée by Tenuta Carretta, called “Cayega” is made from 100% local Arneis grapes.
After alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine was left on its less for a short time to increase aromatic complexity and texture.
Tasting Notes
This Roero Arneis white from Piemonte comes in a bright and quite intense lemon-yellow color, very shiny with some intensity.
The nose is both elegant, and fragrantly fruity, filled with intense and fresh citrus scents. A dominant ripe lemon aroma. Touches of acacia leaves and lily flowers, white pepper and a hints of earthiness make for a delicate aromatic profile. Clean and lively to smell!
Put the wine in your mouth, and it explodes like firework of zesty citrus flavors, with the crisp acidity and slight bitterness to the finish included, and more importantly fresh grapefruit, lemon and lime flavors.
Dry but balanced by an oily texture, the flavor profile feels ripe and generous, sweet lemon with hints of tropical notes of fresh pineapple and mango.
Spicy finish includes salivating phenolics, on a subtle citrus-skin-like bitterness.
Overall
A fragrant and lively dry white, with both round body and zesty acidity that delivers a wealth of citrus fruit concentration. Filled with great qualities we love in whites, bursting flavors, mineral acidity, and a slightly savory finish, it is a very well executed and enjoyable version of the Roero grape variety from Piedmont. Never boring, it satisfies every sip with bursts of lime, flowers, and tropical fruits.
A food-friendly wine that you can sip and enjoy on its own as well.
Meant to be drunk young and fresh, probably within 2 years (<2019) although it could possibly age rather well developing a complex bouquet, given the wealth of concentration and acidity.
Enjoy 🙂
