Tasting Notes
This Argentina Malbec comes, as is expected, is a pretty dark red color. It’s dark and intense to the core. Dark yet vibrant red to the rim.
The nose is certainly intense as well. Even as you pour the wine into the glass, or into a wine decanter like I did, you can smell vinous aromas coming out.
Swirl the glass and stick your nose into it though, and you’ll find a wine that is a little tight and restrained. It smells meaty and juicy like we like and expect from a Malbec. But here are some eggy notes, it is a bit reductive with volcano sulfur smells, unfortunately masking what appears to be ripe dark berry aromas and pungent white pepper notes. These still manage to come through the nose, but bothered in their normally yummy and appetizing expression by some reductive rubber notes. That’s if you’re sensitive to them like I am. These don’t just go away after half an hour of decanting and aerating unfortunately.
Still, put the wine in your mouth, and these reductive characters don’t seem to bother anymore, at all!
The wine strikes by its utter smoothness, with velvety, almost silky tannins made even rounder by an oily soft body. The whole feels like a ball of delicate silk on your palate, caressing your senses with a charming texture.
The flavors are rich and opulent, of dark ripe red berries, cherry jam and juicy blackberry. Plenty of pepperiness spice things up a little, while very well integrated vanilla oaky notes, a touch of smokiness make your mouth salivate with tasty excitement.
Overall
An exciting and salivating Argentina Malbec. But it does come from the Southernmost wine region in the country, Patagonia, which is cooler, resulting in a fresher crisper style.
Tasty and quite powerful like we like our Malbec to be, it is yet acidic and upfront fruity with character and juicy freshness, combined with what feels like the right amount of oaky notes.
This is a dry red, with savory vinous flavors, but very well balanced by its natural fruitiness and opulent body texture. It feels generous and gorgeously fruity, yet restrained-enough, and sustained by a good acidity.
An excellent sipping red for lovers of soft and smooth yet tasty wines with personality, to pair with grilled meats, pizzas (which is what I enjoyed with, after the tasting) and other generous dishes.
Enjoy 🙂
