This flagship red wine by Bodega Fin Del Mundo is a Bordeaux blend with a solid proportion of Argentina’s iconic grape: Malbec 40%, Cabernet Sauvignon 40%, and Merlot 20%.
After a long maceration in tank of about 30 days around the fermentation, the wine was run through an ageing in oak in two steps. For the first 8 months in French oak barrels, each grape variety was kept separate before the final blend selection was done. Once blended, the wine underwent a further 15-month maturation in barrel.
This Patagonian Bordeaux blend red wine comes in a very dark and dense red color, virtually black to the core, super-dark red even to the rim.
The nose is deep and powerful, yet providing a feeling of refinement as well as deep warming fruitiness.
Dark cherry liqueur and blackberry jam dominate the aromatic profile. They are spiced up by a wealth of white and black pepper notes. Clove and nutmeg too add complexity to the mix of spices.
The ageing in new French oak seems to have brought plenty of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and vanilla aromas too, bringing a comforting background to the smell.
While the nose felt fine and polished despite its obvious pungency, put the wine in your mouth and your hit straight away by the sheer concentration and power of the blend.
Tannins are very dense but also very smooth, providing a pleasing velvety texture. This is a wine with massive body, round and oily texture, big shoulders of tannins, and a solid backbone of acidity.
The powerful flavors are a fine combination of ripe red berry and some jammy fruit, with lifted chili-like pepper spices, savory clove character, and well-integrated oak notes. The whole feels big and powerful, densely concentrated, yet balanced as whole.
A big, fine, and refined red wine that seems to be built to impress. And it does…
Massive concentration, ripe jammy fruit, deep spices and satisfying oak flavors are all delivered in a fascinating and punchy mix of sweet/savory flavors, but always pungent, explosive and expressive.
