Score: 88/100
This rosé wine from Southern France’ Languedoc wine region, comes from the Faugères AOC, grapes sourced from sloppy vineyards on schist soils, under the local Mediterranean climate. It is a blend of Grenache 60%, Cinsault 20%, and Syrah 20%, processed and made into a pink wine using the direct pressing method.
Tasting Notes
This Languedoc pink wine comes in a pink-salmon of medium intensity, slightly pale a pink with hints of both purple and orange hues making it look delicate and appealing. The transparent bottle it comes in, showcases its color nicely.
The nose is also elegant and delicate, with subtle citrus notes of grapefruit and lime, as well as floral pomegranate and blueberry. Pleasant and rather discrete to smell at!
This is a dry rosé, with a zesty acidity well balanced by an oily texture, with a refreshing acidity.
The wine shines through with a wealth of powerful flavors of strawberry and pear, a smooth vegetal element, like acaia leaves, also some delicate honey, and floral notes of lily.
Some phenolics bring in a touch of savoriness from the mid-palate on, with a hint of astringency and a little saltiness cutting through the generous fruity flavors nicely, and suggesting this wine will accompany food beautifully.
Overall
An elegant dry rosé, balanced, smooth, and generous in pungent flavors with enjoyable variety of tones, from floral to citrusy, just-enough of some delicate vegetal character to keep it interesting, and hints of spiciness, promising to deliver one of the most important aspects of rosé wine: food-friendliness.
This Faugères should have plenty of it… and more!
Enjoy 🙂
