Score: 86/100
This white Bordeaux wine from the Entre-Deux-Mers area (reknown for its whites in particular) is made by famous producer Vignobles André Lurton.
This 2016 vintage is a blend of 57% Sauvignon Blanc and 43% Sémillon vinified in stainless steel tanks (no oak).
This is how the winery describes the vintage: “2016 was one of the finest vintages in the past 20 years. Winter was exceptionally wet and mild, and it rained a great deal in spring until June. However, the weather changed radically in mid-June, turning warm and quite dry, with cool nights. Ideal conditions for growing excellent wine grapes!“
Tasting Notes
This Bordeaux white comes in a bright and shiny lemon-yellow color of medium-to-pale intensity.
The nose feels a little bit shy and introvert. Although, perhaps don’t mind me too much on this as I’ve spent 6 years in New Zealand where Sauvignon Blanc are often over-expressive ?. Still, you do have to stick your nose into the glass deep and pay careful attention to notice aromas that are, once you’ve caught them, rather lively and vibrant indeed.
Green apple, freshly squeezed grapefruit, pear juice and fresh lemon. A fair bit going on in the end, mainly fruity, a touch tropical with hints of fresh pineapple, and some boxwood (buis) reminding us we are well indeed with a Sauvignon Blanc-based wine.
The palate is soft and dry. Fresh and fragrant dominated by a wealth of citrus flavors, with crisp acidity, and just enough residual sugars to balance it out well although you hardly feel them.
Pungent notes of ripe pear, fresh pineapple, and passion explode on the palate, especially as the wine warms up in your mouth.
Overall
A pleasant, crisp, vibrant, and refreshing dry and light white wine for easy yet pleasant enjoyment.
Wine & Food Pairing
Ideal on fresh oysters and other shells, or any delicate seafood dish really! Great white wine also to sip nonchalantly at a barbecue party, with enough flavor intensity to match tasty foods, yet also enough crispiness and freshness for all types of thirst to be quenched.
Enjoy 🙂
