Score: 93/100
This red wine from the North-end of the Languedoc wine region, or the Pic Saint Loup appellation to be precise, is an organic wine, is a Syrah-dominant blend, of about 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache, grown on limestone soils with some silt and sand.
The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 12 to 14 months, before a further maturation in tank of about 6 months.

Tasting Notes
This Pic Saint Loup red comes in a pretty dark and intense red color, very dark and slightly purple to the core, you can hardly see through. The rim also features appealing hints of a purple hue, suggesting the wine is still youthful in its appearance despite its 4 years of age at the time of tasting.
The nose feels deep and serious, as soon as you make your very first sniff. Black olive, and some meaty aromas give it a sense of depth. Although, the dominant notes to the aromatic profile are mainly fruit, dark ripe aromas of red berries, blackberry and strawberry jam with a liveliness brought by fresh blueberry tones. Sweet-smelling notes of delicate vanilla and blond caramel amplify the appealing sweetness of the nose.
The palate feels very smooth, dense, utterly balanced, and composed.
This is a dry red, yet the richness of the powerful ripe berry fruit flavors make for a juicy balanced experience. The acidity is undeniably present, providing great tension all along the tasting. Tannins are fine and dense, with a granulous, slightly biting edge still, bringing the experience up to a salivating finish with a salty feel.
Overall
This refined Languedoc red feels like it is still a relatively young wine with huge potential to become an exceptional, utterly balanced, and complex liquid. All the elements of a great wine are here, concentration of flavors, acidity and tannins, elegance of all the aromatic expression, and more importantly, an absolute finesse, perfectly balanced between freshness and richness, tension and generosity, exuberance and control.
Give it another 3 years to further open and smoothen. Should age harmoniously an easy 10 to 15 years from there (2020 to 2035).
Enjoy 🙂
