Review of 2016 Domaine Rety ‘Legacy’ Côtes Catalanes IGP Blanc, France
Score: 88+/100
Tasting Notes
This Roussillon white comes in a medium intensity lemon-yellow color, slightly pale with hints of green hues. The nose is also delicate, filled with discrete floral and fruity notes, delicate acacia honey, honeysuckle, and fresh apricot. One can sense the presence and clear influence of Muscat in the blend, with esters dominating the aromatic profile providing stone fruit character. There is also certainly some zesty lemon to be smelt in there.
Add a touch of underlying freshly-cut grass, white and green pepper tones for the complete picture of a relatively introvert nose featuring precise primary fruit aromas. The palate feels very fresh and zesty, clearly dry, with a solid mineral acidity and a salty edge. An oily body backed up with rich ripe lemon flavors balances the whole out well, preserving the fresh crispy approach. Flavors of candy and green apple complement the dominant citrus notes. The dry, mineral, acidic finish, bursting with aromas of citrus, gives a distinctive lemon juice-like after taste, including the hint of a salivating drying feel you also get from fresh lemonade.
Overall
A tasty and enjoyable white wine, standing out thanks to the precision of its zesty and vibrant fruity and floral components. Refreshing, mineral and invigorating, it does provide some depth with the feature of a broad variety of fruit notes, and a distinctively fresh citrusy finish. Enjoy 🙂 Julien Miquel
