Wine Review of 2016 Domaine Monplezy Canon Huppé Cotes de Tongue IGP, Languedoc-Roussillon, France
Score: 88/100
The ‘Canon Huppé’ cuvée by producer Domaine Monplezy is an organic wine made from 100% Cinsault grapes from the Languedoc wine region in the South of France, and vinified as a Beaujolais.
A wine meant to be approachable, fruity, and easy.
Tasting Notes
This Languedoc red comes in a ruby red color of medium intensity, looking relatively light for the style and with touches of orange hues.
The nose is vibrantly fruity and generous, with dominant aromas of orange peel and cooked apple, complemented by a wealth of sweet spices. Also add hints of cooked berries like raspberry and strawberry.
The smell suggests one of an apple, orange, and red berries crumble spread with a 5 sweet spices mix, and perhaps white pepper too as odd as it might sound. The whole smells pleasant and upfront fruity, just with a tomato leaf character that seems a little out of place but doesn’t bother to much at that point.
The palate is smooth and easy to enjoy, medium body and a medium acidity. What shines through is the cooked fruit flavors, in line with the nose. A warming and generous finish of layers of sweet spices and warm citrus fruit marmalade.
Overall
An approachable and easy-to-enjoy fruity red wine, in a dry and slightly savory vinous style despite the ripe fruitiness. Spicy, fruity, relatively light-bodied for Languedoc, it still delivers plenty of flavor sensations of the pleasing type.
Enjoy 🙂
