Wine Review of 2017 Corvezzo Winery Terre di Marca Organic Extra Dry Prosecco Millesimato, Veneto, Italy
Score: 89+/100
An organic Prosecco ‘without chemical tricks’ claims the producer Corvezzo winery!
One has to admit it does translate into the wine.
For a start, it’s rare enough to have a Prosecco wine that comes labeled under the vintage it was made into.
Many Prosecco wines are blends, mass-produced wines the wineries don’t even bother mentioning which year the grapes were grown.
This 2017 vintage Prosecco, under the Terre di Marca range, is even more precise to my palate than the 2016 vintage was (find the review for 2016 Corvezzo Terre di Marca Organic Prosecco here).
Tasting Notes
The color is elegantly pale, like expected from the style. A rather pale lemon color.
Smell the wine, and the nose follows suit with vibrant lime and lemon scents dominating the aromatic profile. Clean estery pear and fresh apricot provide a sense of pure fresh fruit character.
The palate feels soft for a Prosecco, an oily texture with just-enough sweetness comes balanced with a crisp citrusy acidity, nicely underlining the lemon flavors.
The whole feels soft and cushiony, leaving place to slightly drying phenolics from the mid-palate on, developing into a silky, and slightly salty feel to the finish.
Overall
For last year’s 2016 vintage, I wrote about this wine “A pleasant yet characterful organic Prosecco that really gives the feeling it tastes like the grapes it was made from. Outstanding concentration for flavors for the style. An excellent utterly soft and creamy sparkling wine, crisp with good acidity yet extremely balanced with a smooth texture, delicate fruity sweetness, and a great overall balance.”
This 2017 vintage confirms that:
1) Corvezzo winery is able to deliver consistency in style —organic wine doesn’t necessarily mean inconsistent anymore apparently—
2) clearly Corvezzo has found with this product a very precise and clean expression of the Prosecco style.
No artifacts, no overdose of sulfites —which I often find can be a drawback to the style—, just a clean and balanced expression of fruit, zesty citrus, refreshing pear, and a hint of spicy mintiness. Yet, the whole is dry and subtle enough to envision being paired successfully with many types of foods. A discrete and elegant sparkling wine.
Enjoy 🙂
