Wine Review of 2017 Sainsbury ‘Taste the Difference’ Sauvignon Blanc White, France
Score: 88/100
This Bordeaux Blanc (white wine), part of the UK Sainsbury’s grocery stores chain, is made in South Western France by Les Vignerons de Tutiac from Sauvignon Blanc grapes in stainless steel tanks.
This 2017 vintage contains sulfites, is suitable for vegans (yes, this is a vegan wine), and comes at a 12.5% alcohol by volume.
Overall Tasting Impressions
The whole is approachable, zesty and lively, somewhat watery but this helps with the refreshing and easy-to-sip overall feel.
A very well made, very balanced dry and pungent white wine, with a touch of a grassy citrusy expression somewhat reminding of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, at least clearly a very typical expression of the grape, with the enjoyable restrained French touch to it!
The exuberance of the tropical fruit characters is reminiscent of a dry Alsatian Gewurztraminer too…
Full Tasting Notes
This Bordeaux white wine comes in a delicate, slightly pale lemon-yellow color, with the appearance of a youthful dry wine.
The nose is clean and pure, filled with clean fruity and fresh aromas of pear, passion fruit, fresh grapefruit, and zesty pineapple. I guess you’d find freshly-squeezed lemon and lime note in there too.
It’s zesty and rather pungently fruity to smell at!
Likewise, this is a crisp white with a refreshing acidity on the palate. It’s dry but well-rounded by a slightly creamy texture and balanced out by the abundant fruity flavors of varied citrus, grapefruit and lime leading.
As an ideal wine & food pairing, Sainsbury’s recommends grilled fish, Caesar salad or goat cheese, and I can’t disagree!
Enjoy 🙂
