Wine Review of 2017 Château Maris Las Combes Minervois Organic Red, Languedoc, France
Score: 89/100 pts
Las Combes by famous winery Chateau Maris, out of Languedoc, is a Grenache-dominant blend of Grenache and Syrah, fermented through a maceration in tanks for one month with gentle pumping over and ‘pigeage’ (punch downs) and a short vinification of 3 months.
It is also an organic wine, made from grapes grown using the principles of biodynamics.
Overall Wine Review & Tasting Impressions
A very tasty, somewhat opulent Languedoc wine coming with a wealth of fruity and spicy characters.
It smells and taste generous, from gorgeous acidic mixed red berry aromas and flavors, blueberry, red berry and boysenberry. Add a wealth of sweet and lifted spices, nutmeg, mixed aromatic herbs (Herbes de Provence, such as sage and rosemary) that provide even more generosity.
The wine is very dry with a salivating minerality. Yet, the generous ripe fruity flavors, the round body, and the smooth tannins give an overall sensation of smooth, almost creaminess.
A very well made characterful Languedoc wine, featuring the precise expression of its terroirs, sun-ripped fruity flavors, with the herbal and spicy notes from the local garrigue, all smoothened and deepened by well-executed winemaking, and the exact touches of caramely and vanilla aroma and flavor oaky tones.
Enjoy 🙂
