Wine Review of 2015 Cave des Vignerons de Pfaffenheim ‘Pfaff’ Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives, Alsace, France
Score: 90+/100
Overall Review Notes & Tasting Impressions
A late harvest Gewürztraminer wine featuring great purity in its fruity expression.
Fresh tropical, stonefruit and citrus fruit are delivered in powerful layers with some complexity, while floral and honey flavors make for a lasting impression to the aftertaste.
A lovely dessert wine, given you love explosive fruit and some sweetness in your white wine.
Wine & Food Pairing?
Drink on its own as an aperitif, or with not-too-sweet a dessert, preferably a fruity and acidic one like a lemon or a passion fruit coulis tart.

Full Tasting Notes
This late harvest wine comes, as expected, in a delightful bright and shiny lemon-yellow color filled with golden orange hues.
The nose is, also as expected from the Gewurztraminer grape, pungently fruity.
It is mainly tropical and floral, featuring intense wine aromas of confit pineapple and litchi, lemon peel, ripe mango and apricot, as well as powerful notes of elderflower and lily. Add some hints of floral honey and touches of beeswax, and you have a very pure, clear and very fragrant aromatic profile dominated by the fruit characters with some depth.
The palate follows suit, featuring explosive flavors of honey scented in tropical notes.
This is an off-dry wine, edging on to medium-sweetness. But the crispy acidity combined with the sharpness and high definition of the refreshing fruit flavors such as fresh pineapple and lemon, make for a relatively light and lively tasting experience.
Enjoy 🙂
