While touring the Champagne wine region of France a few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of stopping by at Champagne Louis de Sacy for tour of the winery and a unique tasting experience.
This is the story of me reviewing Louis de Sacy wines, meeting the passionate family members, and sharing my journey at the winery.
While at Louis de Sacy winery in Verzy, a small village of Champagne, I had the opportunity to taste and review most of their wines.
Find bellow of all my notes and ratings for Louis de Sacy bubblies followed by information about the House.
Wine Reviews & Tasting Notes Louis de Sacy Champagnes
History & People
Louis de Sacy is a Champagne House (Maison) located in the village of Verzy, a famous Grand Cru terroir in the Montagne de Reims area.
The Sacy family have been growing vines in Champagne for 13 generations since 1633.
It is ‘only in 1962 however, that a family member, André Sacy took the decision to produce Champagne sparkling wine under his own label, creating at the Champagne Sacy Père et Fils brand which will become Champagne Louis de Sacy in 1986.
Then his son, Alain Sacy who I tasted with, took the reins of Louis de Sacy growing the brand in France but also developing it on export markets that are now an important part of the business.
Today, Alain’s daughter and son, Yaël and Jonathan Sacy, after various work experiences in France and abroad, have joined the family business since 2012 and are taking each year more and more reponsabilities for the estate.
Jonathan gets more and more involved in many technical aspects, both in the vineyards and the cellar.
While Yaël mainly looks after sales and communication.
Meeting with Yaël and Jonathan to tour the winery, I could feel how these two young, dynamic, and extremely welcoming individuals have inherited the passion for their estate and their wines from the long history of their family.
Today Louis de Sacy House runs 18 hectares of land over 23 different vineyards in the villages of Verzy, Cernay, Trellon, and Bligny. Vineyards and wines are mainly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, just a little Pinot Meunier is used.
To diversify their grape supply, and reach further consistency in the annual blends, the Maison also buys grapes from growers from another 5 hectares of vines.
The winery has a rather vertical configuration.
At the top are offices and a tasting room with spectacular views over the vineyards around Verzy (see video below of the snowy vineyards).
Underneath are the tank and barrels rooms, bottle storage and riddling areas as the slider below shows:

While we were quietly tasting Champagne wine, a snow storm started outside.
This is pretty rare phenomenon considering my visit was at the end of April.
We had a stunning view over it from Louis de Sacy’s beautiful tasting room. The footage of it went viral on Social Media, check it out:
