Gruner Veltliner is really the ultimate food varietal, and pairs with nearly everything; in fact, i am hard pressed to find a food with which it doesn’t. And if you want a red with your burger, try an Austrian Zweigelt. Austria has over 20,000 small wineries, most utilizing hand harvesting and either sustainable/organic/bio-dynamic methods. This is not mass market wine from a factory farm; this is wine from a country producing artisanal wine for a few thousand years, and yet for about the same price as some mass market wines, you can get these beautifully made wines. Even compared to wines from other countries that are at the level of craft of the top Austrian winemakers, they are a tremendous value. Fine wine at a great price.
