Even though they’re often not included in the English language, some ‘foreign’ wine terms are used everywhere around the world of wine.
Because they’re everywhere on wine labels, and they’re not always tanslatable, wine aficionados and professionals have included them in their everyday vocabulary.
If you’re relatively new to wine, you might be wondering why these French, Italian, or Spanish words pop up in wine geeks’ conversations.
More dramatically, you might be struggling to pick up on what’s being talked about, or simply be wondering what they mean.
Because I hate leaving my fellow wine lovers in ignorance, and I love to share, I gathered with Vivino definitions and explanations of the 10 Top Non-English wine terms:
- Barrique
- Blanc (or Blanco, Bianco)
- Bodega
- Brut
- Château
- Cru
- Millésime
- Reserva (or Riserva, Réserve)
- Vendange (Vendemia, Vendimia)
- Vieilles Vignes
