Actually “merde” in that sense means “good luck”- basically the equivalent of “break a leg.” You do not say it after the performance but before.

Thanks for the comment Laura 🙂 As I said in the piece, the relative faults of the wine would be quite acceptable if it was cheap. It’s not horrible wine in absolute (though I didn’t appreciate it personally, not my taste), hence the 83/100 pts score. I do not smash a wine with a very low score just because it’s not my own personal cup of tea. 83/100 is were I think it neutraly stands in terms of quality. Where I much disliked the experience is because of the price (not accounted for in my scoring system which tries to judge quality in absolute). I probably wouldn’t buy such a wine. But if I would, I wouldn’t like to pay any more than 3 or 4 euros (at least here in the South of France where this is how this type of wine is priced). Yet I paid more than 10 euros for it which could have bought me an excellent Languedoc wine. They suggested the term ‘shit wine’ themselves, and given the very ordinary quality they deliver for the price, my conclusion is that they deserve it. It’s fun and nice to be creative with labels, I’m all for it. But it’s not ok to use it to fool people into buying a poor wine for a high price. Hope that clarifies it for you Laura. Cheers 🙂

The 83/100 score is the score I gave the wine myself after tasting it. This whole article is about me buying that wine (dear) and finding out it is really not good for the price they ask for it 🙁 THanks for your comment 🙂

And, have you tasted the wine yourself, or are you simply relying on the ‘score’ of someone else?
