While attending the Wine Bloggers Conference earlier this month (August 2016), sponsored by the Lodi Wine Grape Commission, I had the pleasure of being given a bottle of wine from Estate Crush that was apparently crafted by wine bloggers!
Tasting Notes:
The wine comes in a dark red color, a little evolve (orangy) on the rim.
Nose is powerful, very fruity, but also oaky and with a solid evolution bouquet.
Cherry liqueur is the dominant note giving the wine an intense fruity character. But burnt wood, vanilla, old port, and spicy characters provide an overall savory feel to the aromatic profile rather than a sweet fruity one. It’s also earthy and a little animal. Enough to tease my curiosity and make me want to dive in and have a sip.
The wine is smooth and powerful on the palate. Loads of peppery spices, clove, nutmeg, and vanilla. Fairly big body, the tannins are not too dense but smooth, while the finish is warm and alcoholic.
More than anything, it’s the oaky flavors that dominate the experience. It tastes like Bourbon with loads of oaky tones, a little dry, and a frankly-evolved touch to the finish.
