I usually used any wine I have when making Sangria but this is a good knowledge to improve it. Thank you for this tip I enjoyed reading your blog.

Any well-intentioned wine that proves to be disappointing is a good candidate for Sangria in our world. By the time we add triple sec, fruit juice and rum and serve over ice, it all tastes good!

As a postgraduate student in Glasgow almost 50 years ago I was a member of a “winemaking club”, you know the sort …. elderberry, dandelion, plum, literally anything including peapod! Each meeting invited a guest speaker and one evening we had a chap from the Spanish Tourist board . After the evenings competition of “dry reds”, he proceeded to pour the dregs of all of our bottles into a large bucket, add a mass of chopped fruit and then topped it up with bottles of lemonade. Glasses were filled and …….. it was brilliant as if some magic illusion trick had been performed! To this day I have never believed in wasting good wine on a Sangria ????

We like a big Red for our Sangria, so we usually choose Zinfandel. To give it a little kick we use ginger ale (Our Canadian tastes probably) for the bubbles.
