There is honestly a lot that you can tell just by looking at the color of the wine, and I think this blog does an excellent job in explaining that. Next time try doing it and see the results.

In reply to Julien Miquel. It's basically a very concentrated sweet red grape juice. The main purpose is to enhance red color of a red wine (the more dense the red color is, the more customers like it for their money). It also adds a bit of a sweeter taste (customers like it as well) and mutes some grape variety flavours. It's of course a completely legal substance, but wineries using it do not admit adding it. Be sure to Google more information about it if interested.
