Evaluna is the second label red wine of Sansonina, and a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from the clay soil wine area around the Garda lake in Veneto, Northern Italy.
Here is how Sansonina winery explains the concept behind Evaluna, and the name: “Tribute to femininity, even its name evokes the symbol of genesis, the origin of the world and the star that represents the feminine world: “Eve” and “Luna”, creative forces, mystery and inspiration, direct link between the earth and the sky.”
Tasting Notes
With a pretty dark but bright red color, this Italian Cabernet bursts in intense aromas on the nose.
Fragrant blackcurrant, of the savory type, loads of raspberry, touches of capsicum, green pepper and plum, there is a lot to smell. It’s intense and quite complex, nicely underlined by oaky vanilla and caramel notes. The oak tones are well integrated and pleasant, adding some sweeter notes to the aromatic profile.
This is a fairly dense wine, with great acidity carrying the palate sensation, along with smooth but dense tannins, ending on a savory and acidic grip.
Just like the nose, the flavors are explosively spicy and appetizingly fruity. A heap of pepper lifts up a wealth of ripe cherry liqueur and blackberry jam. It’s powerful and feels warm.
Overall
An excellent characterful Cabernet, dry, ripe, and very varietal, bursting in spicy flavors and many layers of complexity.
Drink now or within 3 to 5 years to enjoy the wine’s fruity juiciness.
Cheers 🙂
