Earlier this year in June, I had the opportunity to have one of my very first immersion into the wines from the Rhone Valley in the South-Eastern part of France.
Wines from the Rhone has always been a great point of interest for me. The huge variety of appellations, from the Northern part of the valley to the South, rich reds based on opulent varieties such as Grenache and Syrah, but also many whites made from grapes Viognier, Marsanne or Roussanne.
Unfortunately, despite tasting and reviewing quite a few Rhone wines for the blog, I haven’t had much of a chance to explore the region much yet.
This first serious visit in the area brought me to speaking in front of local producers inside the Pope’s Palace in Avignon, about what it takes to use the new media platforms, social media and wine videos to communicate the story of a winery and a wine estate.
After the conference, I attended a masterclass at L’ecole des Vins of Avignon to learn more about the wines.

About the Wine School Masterclass Sessions in Avignon
L’école des vins of Avignon is a masterclass workshop held in the heart of Avignon every Saturday morning between 10:30 and 12:30 pm.
It’s a great chance to hear specialists explain the different appellations most of which correspond to the many villages that make wine in the area. We learn about the different grapes and the varied wine styles.
What is great, is that beyond the slideshows and detailed explanations given by the speaker, we also get to taste the wines at the same time, a great opportunity for wine amateurs to learn and experience first-hand how different grapes and different terroirs translate into a glass of wine that you actually hold in your hand, that you can taste and smell.
If you’re ever in Avignon, this summer or beyond, check out the Rhone Wines website for information about the Rhone Wine School sessions:
