Wooing Tree is a family owned single vineyard site and winery, situated in the Central Otago region of New Zealand, next to the town of Cromwell and opposite the “Big Fruit Sculpture” (pictured).
The vineyard counts with approximately 44,000 vines planted in 2002, and a ‘Wooing Tree’ in the middle. The 26 ha vineyard site has 16 ha planted in mainly Pinot Noir.
The rosé wine tasted today is made of 100% Pinot Noir grapes, grown on the family-owned vineyard. The pink colour results from leaving juice in contact with the grape’s skins for several days prior to a gentle whole bunch press. The juice was fermented in stainless steel.
Tasting Notes:
It’s got an intense yet delicate pink color with a slight orange hue giving it that appealing salmon color we love in rosé, even though it’s darker that most salmon-colored rosé wines you come across.
The nose displays equally-intense strawberry aromas, and is also pretty estery with subtle but clear banana notes. Clean, fresh, and refreshing to smell.
The wine drinks very well, with a rather oily texture, a slightly low acidity for a rosé but the aromatic fruity freshness more than compensates. The fruit mix we suspected from the nose literally explodes in the mouth. There might actually be a little too much going on if you’re more into savory notes, with banana notes joining the grapefruit and strawberry ones in a joyful tutti frutti medley.
If you like your rosé fruity however, this has an outstanding array of aromas and drinks like a healthy tropical & strawberry smoothie, in a wine form!
A crowd-pleaser for summer gatherings, barbecue and social aperitifs.
