Bottega Gold is a Prosecco Doc Brut sparkling wine, made from the Glera grapes grown in the hills of the Valdobbiadene area, near the Venetian Prealps in North East Italy.
It comes as a vintage bubbly (millesimato as the Italians say) with the newest release, year 2016, reviewed here.
The grapes used to make this wine were hand picked and gently pressed at the winery. The must (grape juice) was fermented in stainless steel tanks at low temperature to keep the freshness of the grape’s fruit character.
Because of the low temperature (14-15° C,), fermentation in closed tanks (also called autoclave, following what’s known as the Charmat method) takes nearly 40 days, at a controlled temperature of 14-15° C, with the help of selected yeasts.
The golden bottle is given to protect the wine from the damage of light which can with a transparent bottle depreciate aroma and freshness.
So What Does Bottega Gold Prosecco Taste Like?
Tasting Notes
This Italian sparkling wine comes in a bright and shiny lemon-yellow color, rather pale with some green hues making it look refreshing and approachable.
The nose is also bright and shiny from the dominance of fresh fruity and floral aromas.
White peach and fresh pear, some apricot and elderflower are the main features making for an upfront-fruity nose.
The palate is off-dry, clearly with some residual sugars underlining the wine’s fruity character.
But good acidity provides freshness and crispiness to the whole.
The finish is a little sulphuric, probably from a good (over!?) dose of sulphites (So2) which weights up this otherwise world of light and lively fruit flavors.
Overall
An approachable super-fruity and crisp sparkling wine, all about stonefruit and citrus characters in a light and easy-to-enjoy slightly sweet approach.
A bubbly that will please those after an uncomplicated sparkling pleasure, all about fruitiness and floral personality, in a good fresh balance.
And those after a gorgeous golden bottle also…
Enjoy 🙂
