Score: 90/100
This Alsace sparkling wine is a non dosé (or zéro dosage) meaning it has seen no addition of sugar prior to being released.
It is a blend of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerois, both white grapes.
Tasting Notes
This French sparkling comes in a relatively intense (for the style) yellow/orange color with pink hues to it.
The nose is powerful, dominated by notes of dried grass, biscuit and ripe stonefruit. It smells leesy with aromas of lemon-scented cookie dough, and touches of sweet spices (nutmeg and white pepper). Perhaps a spicy ginger bread is a good approximation of what it smells like, with tones of dried apricot too.
Complex, intriguing, and enjoyable to smell!
The palate is dry and mineral (remember, there’s no added sugar here), dominated by a zesty acidity that matches and underlines well the lemon/citrus flavors. But it feels also ripe with hints of tropical pineapple and the drid apricot notes again, and round-bodied so the overall balance it is smooth.
Some phenolics to the finish delicate dry your palate in a velvety feel, while the minerality (translate hints of salty character here) accentuates the savory feel after tasting. But again, the ripe fruit notes are here to keep the balance sweet/sour in perfect check.
Overall
A complex, dry, crisp, fruity and biscuity sparkling wine fit o be enjoyed in any occasion.
It is fruity and rich enough to be consumed on its own, especially if you have an educated palate, but it is also absolutely meant to be enjoyed with food: salty appetizers, delicate entrees, seafood or white meat dishes.
An excellent Crémant filled with unique personality.
Enjoy 🙂
