I first posted about #WineSelfies on 23 January 2015 on Twitter, and I pride myself in developing this fun and friendly hashtag for the #winelover community. And it’s already become quite popular since.
There has been little time for our January 2015 competition but the support and participation have been amazing. To join the fun and get in next month’s selection, just follow a few simple guidelines from Why using the #WineSelfies Hashtag ?
We’ve selected here the Top 10 best shots tweeted in Jan based on a few simple criteria:
- the fun, the most important part
- the aesthetic: not of the participants themselves but rather of the overall picture, of the background, the originality of the shot (angle, light, context, etc.) and how appealing to the #winelover community the wine itself looks (because at the end of the day it’s the wine that matters)
- and whether the image actually corresponds to the definition of #wineselfies.
Note: if you published a wineselfie without using the hashtag #wineselfies or if you didn’t include my handle @JMiquelWine, I may well have missed your beautiful shot. My advise: give it a go this month!
So by decreasing ranking, our January 2015 winners are:
#1: Ray Isle @islewine, on Jan 22
Image first published on foodandwine.com
Well it takes a lot of humor (and cojones) to tweet such a wineselfy. Despite (or maybe thanks to) the controversy it inevitably generates, this image ticks all the boxes: it’s sooo much fun, great background, superb shirt Ray, stylish sunglasses, what else? Oh… yes, a wine doesn’t get any more appealing than Petrus does it… ?!? Call me in when you open a bottle of Romanee-Conti Ray 🙂
#2 Street Style Chic @detroishar, on Jan 26
Arguably she’s not drinking wine, but we believe it IS a wine-based cocktail. Nice outfit, blurry background, beautiful light, and those eyes !!
#3 Miss Bubbles @missbubbles1983, on 23 Jan
Yes, you are allowed to submit a wineselfie with your friend(s) on it. This looks like the perfect environment for a glass of fresh bubbly, doesn’t it?
#4 Ayisigi DUNDAR @ayisigidundar, on 25 jan
Well is that really you Ayisigi on this picture ?
#5 Bond @paolopasquale, on 23 Jan
Now because Paolo was one of the very few males to submit an image, he automatically jumped up 3 or 4 spots. The color of the pull over could be more original but it matches the background, and the wine looks concentrated. The red must be good enough anyway to put a smile of Paolo’s face which is what we love to see.
#6 Patty Haydn @Patdawan, on Jan 25
Truly charming, nice angle, great-colored red wine and angry music lover frame in the background! Nice touch Patty!
#7 Wineteena @wineteena, on Jan 23
Love the big fat glass of red wine. Apart from intriguing sunglasses she wears at night, Wineteena also has a fun YouTube channel. Check it out! What’s your first name by the way mystery wine lover? Cheers!
#8 BarbaraNg @BarbaraNGeorge, on Jan 25
Ok, so technically this does not qualify as #wineselfies because it does not have the wine lover’s face on it.
If you need to, Barbara & George, you might want to refresh you memory on what a Wineselfie is on Wikipedia. But a beautiful shot that deserves to make it to the Top 10 this month.
#9 Kat M Årre @severus75snape, on Jan 25
Nice one Kat! We like how dress and wine color match, and how your eyes suggest you’re enjoying the sip.
#10 CALIFORNIA LIVING® @CALivingTV, on Jan 28
A shame the image is a bit blurry. The wine looks delish. We’ve had great support from CALIFORNIA LIVING® on the #wineselfies project series. Cheers Aprilanne!
We hope you’ve enjoyed the journey. More to come early March for our February Top February.
