Christian Moueix is one of the few producers to own properties and make super-premium wines in both the old and new worlds.
French winemaker and viticulturalist, he has been since 1991 the president of the Bordeaux négociant house founded by his father: Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix.
In France, he produces wine from ten family chateaux including, in Pomerol, La Fleur Pétrus, Trotanoy, Hosanna, Providence and in Saint-Emilion, Belair-Monange and Magdelaine. For over 40 years now, he has also directed or consulted for the production of the most famous and expensive Bordeaux wine: Pétrus.
In 1982, Christian Moueix formed a partnership with Robin Lail and Marcia Smith to produce Dominus wine in Napa Valley, California. Since 1995, he is the sole owner of Dominus Estate on the historic Napanook Vineyard in Yountville.
Acknowledging the importance of his winemaking career and his influence on the world of wine, Christian Moueix received important tittles and awards:
- Legend of Wine by the James Beard Foundation in New York City in 2008
- Man of the Year by Decanter Magazine in London also in 2008
- Wine Spectator’s Distinguished Service Award in 2011
Needless to say the man knows his wine, and how well his illustrious productions from Bordeaux and Napa pair with food. Yet he came up with one of the most memorable quotes in the world of wine:
“More important than the food pairing is the person with whom you drink the wine”
