Score: 89+/100
The Zinio Vendimia Seleccionada by Bodegas Patrocinio is a Crianza wine made from 100% Tempranillo grapes from the super-famous Spanish wine region of Rioja.
After manual harvesting and fermentation, it was aged for 14 months in American and French oak wine barrels, then matured for a further 10 months in bottle at the bodega before release.
Tasting Notes
This Rioja red comes in a dense and quite dark red color, black to the core without being overly black, bright red to the rim.
The nose is lively and fragrant, filled with fresh berry notes of raspberry, as well as ripe if not cooked fruit aromas like strawberry jam. It’s somewhat restrained although open and expressive at the same time. Perhaps because it’s packed with spices like clove, toasted notes of dark cocoa and coffee, vanilla and a mineral ashy feel to the smell
The palate is medium-bodied, with good balance and acidity. Not a lot of tannins, but they’re very soft. Plenty of sweet spices flavors complements the red berry characters well for an overall fruity/savory feel that is composed, expressive and enjoyable.
Overall
A good mid-range Rioja, with character and personality, displaying great balance between fruit, oak, and natural spicy notes from the fruit.
Enjoy 🙂
