This wine is made by Domaine Rety in the extreme South of France, in the Southern part of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, from a Grenache-dominant blend of 80% Grenache with 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre.
The grapes were grown using biodynamic viticulture then machine harvested. Fermentation and ageing was run with whole grapes and frequent pigeage (punching down of the cap) in tank.
2015 L’Insolente cuvee by Domaine Rety was award 3 stars in the 2018 Guide Hachette.
This red wine from Southern France’s Roussillon comes in a pretty dark red color, intensified by pleasing purple hues. It’s intensely purple-red to the rim making it look appealing and youthful.
The nose is also intense, and gives a serene impression of fruity depth.
Dark and ripe blueberry aromas dominate the profile, smelling fresh and crispy in the dark berry spectrum, yet ripe and profound, helped with depth by clear black olive tones. Smoky notes of tobacco and spicy scents of chili-like black pepper lift and spice things up for an intriguing and tempting smelling experience.
As soon as you put the wine in your mouth, the palate strikes by the vibrancy of its acidity. The nose, filled with fresh berry aromas, suggested we were here not with your usual rich jammy red but rather one in a fresher crisper fruity style. It is confirmed straight away with bursting flavors of fresh blackberry and ripe raspberry on the palate.
The wine feels soft with fairly-round and velvety tannins, well coated by a creamy body.
The tannins do develop, from the mid-palate on, to provide a granulous texture underlined by the wine’s outstanding juiciness. Its soft and medium body make it easy to enjoy and swallow, while a sense of salinity combined with the vibrant acidity makes you salivate and give an enjoyable sensation of juiciness.
Mid-length finish on spices, plum and Provencal herbs notes.
A very serious and very charming Roussillon red, filled with gorgeous freshly-picked red berry fruits characters, that are greatly lifted by spices and herbs. It pleases by the easy-going, easy-to-drink nature of its softly-textured, crisp, and mineral palate.
Yet, it also has the depth, juiciness, vinosity, and the savoriness of such flavors as black olive and clove to please those in search of profundity and personality beyond just upfront fruitiness.
