Wine Review of 2017 Drouin Family Domaine des Gerbeaux Mâcon-Solutré, Burgundy Chardonnay from France
Score: 89+/100
This Burgundy 100% Chardonnay wine is made by the Famille Drouin from vines located around the town of Solutré Puilly in the Maconnais area of Burgundy, France.
Overall Tasting Impressions
An upfront fruity, citrusy and tropical Chardonnay in a balanced dry and relatively opulent style, all about the fruity expression rounded up by a creamy oily texture. The fresh-melon dominant flavors and aromas are a little surprising and unusual, but enjoyable.
A Burgundy Chardonnay with a distinct personality. No artifacts, it’s all about the exuberance of the Chardonnay primary fruit character, yet delivered with somewhat of a French elegance.
Full Tasting Notes
This Burgundy Chardonnay comes in a bright and shiny lemon-yellow color of medium intensity, with a few gold hues accentuating its shininess.
The nose is clearly dominated by primary fruit aromas, and vibrant ones at that; fresh melon, pomegranate, peach, pear and apricot. A touch of herbal grassiness adds some lifted spiciness, almost a touch of mintiness. Elderflower and lily give a sense of a floral edge to the aromatic profile.
A pleasing and upfront fruity/floral chardonnay to smell, rich and layered in its fruity expression, yet with a certain elegance and restraint.
The palate is dry and creamy, bursting with pear and peach fruity flavors, but ones that seems to be coated in fresh cream. Somewhat like a fresh pear and peach fruit salad that would be covered in whipped cream it tastes like. Pleasant!
Oily texture, dry sensation balanced by the richness of the fruitiness, and silky phenolics give a salivating textural finish with a sense of saltiness.
Enjoy 🙂
