Castillo de Monjardin is located in the North of Spain in the Navarra region at the foothills of the Pyrenées mountain ranges, not far from the French border.
Historically, the castle of Monjardin was very important for the Kingdom of Navarra during the XII century under the King Sancho Garces. It is still to this day a famous pilgrimage route from Paris to Santiago de Compostella.
The proximity and historic cultural links to France provide a winemaking tradition using French grape varieties on Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, a distinctive feature from most of the rest of Spain.
Monjardín also uses Garnacha (Grenache) and Pinot Noir making fresh and fruity reds.
During the last 25 years, we have been awarded with more than 100 Medals and publications. Monjardín’s vineyards lie on sunny slopes at an average altitude of 1800 feet and are cooled by the “Cierzo” wind.
The Estate is family-owned, covering about 220 hectares of vineyards (540 acres) with vines aged from 15 to 70 years old.
Castillo Monjardin Winemaking Philosophy
The owner and winemaker Victor Del Villar prides himself for making wines of singularly intense aroma, full flavor and firm structure.
All wines are made with grapes from Estate vineyards. Wines are aged in French and American oak barrels.
The bodega uses traditional winemaking methods with a twist of innovation in order to make high quality wines that complement Mediterranean cuisine and represent the terroir of our Estates Vineyard while making Monjardin Wines among the most popular from Spain.

Overall review Notes & Tasting Impressions
A Spanish red blend that features a bright red and rather dark color, although not overly intense but with a nice bright red rim and darker hues to the core.
The nose is frank and fruity, boasting fresh notes of red berries, fresh raspberry and blackberry, smoothened and sweetened by aromas of vanilla, caramel and toffee. The aromatic profile is lifted up by notes of freshly-grounded Sichuan pepper and aromatic herbs, thyme and rosemary. And appealing, clean and fruity smell.
The palate is soft and very well balanced between a grippy enough acidity, tannins of medium concentration but providing a pleasant smooth feel.
The flavors are riper than perceived to the nose, comforting blackberry jam, some plum settle in by delicately warming and comforting alcohol. The oak from the 12-month ageing in barrel is well integrated, yet present in the form of clear notes of vanilla an clove. Granulous texture to the finish, with an explosion of clove and mixed spices, with a salivating herbal bitterness that ends as an invitation to have food.
Pair with richly-flavored dishes, grilled meats, rich stews, and other meaty garlicky tapas.
A well-crafted Spanish red delivering excellent value. The satisfying signature savoriness of a European wine, full of spices and herbal scents, combined with the comforting ripeness of a good Spanish red, all for an affordable price. A much more food-friendly wine than many new world examples as this price point, the dryness, acidic sourness, yet well balanced out in a well-crafted blend…
