Overall Review Notes & Tasting Impressions
This Argentinian Cabernet Franc, an unusual grape variety for the country, yet comes in a deep dark color as we’re used to from Argentina. Not as deep as your typical Malbec from there, obviously, but yet an pleasing and inviting dark red with hints of purple hues to it.
The nose is deep and ripe yet marked by Cab Franc’s signature finesse and blackcurrant notes. Profound scents of fresh blackberry combine with jammy blackcurrant, hints of black and green pepper spiciness. The whole is surrounded by dark cocoa and clove, for a captivating and inviting aromatic profile, split between richness and precision.
This is a seriously concentrated Cabernet Franc, with a wealth of dense tannins to the mid-palate that develop into a slightly edgy granulosity. The body is full but certainly not overwhelming, as some vibrant acidity underlines the dominant raspberry coulis flavors, on a rich background of blackberry and dark chocolate. The grape’s signature violet flower notes standout pleasingly.
Overall, an excellent Cabernet Franc wine in a rather usually rich expression for the grape if you’re used to the Loire’s of even Bordeaux’. Yet This is Cabernet Franc wine that is remains true to the grape, the opulence and the tannins finesse and density that we love from the Cabernet family, with the floral elegance that only Franc delivers.
A convincing illustration of the great potential of Cabernet Franc to be recognized someday as one of the greatest red wine grapes when it comes to making concentrated but elegant wines, and a demonstration that Argentina could play its part in this still-to-be-written story.
Enjoy 🙂
